Apple Unveils New MacBook Air Models with M3 Chipset
Apple has recently announced an update to its popular MacBook Air series, just a month after launching the Vision Pro headset. The standout feature of the new MacBook Air is the inclusion of Apple’s proprietary M3 chipset, which was previously exclusive to the more powerful MacBook Pro line and the latest iMac models. This upgrade is available for both the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air models.
The M3 chip offers a significant improvement in performance compared to its predecessor, with benchmark tests showing an approximate increase of 17 percent in single-core tasks and 21 percent in multi-core tasks. GPU performance has also seen a boost of around 15 percent compared to the M2 chip.
With the introduction of the M3 chip, the line between the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro continues to blur. The MacBook Air is no longer limited to web surfing and has become a more capable device for various tasks.
Despite the new chip, the design of the MacBook Air remains largely unchanged from the 2022 model. It still features the same 13.6-inch screen and robust quad-speaker setup. The 15-inch model is also similar to the one introduced last summer, with the main difference being the M3 upgrade.
The new MacBook Air models come with 8GB of RAM, catering to the needs of everyday users rather than power users. However, both models can be upgraded to a maximum of 24GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. Additional features include support for up to two external displays when the laptop is closed and Wi-Fi 6E compatibility in the 2024 Air laptops.
The 13-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chipset is priced at $1,099, while the 15-inch model starts at $1,299. As part of the update, Apple bids farewell to the M1 MacBook Air, but the M2 13-inch model will remain available for purchase at $999.
Preorders for the new MacBook Air models are now open, and the devices are set to be released on Friday, March 8.
