Panic unveils 16 new titles in gaming showcase.
Panic, the gaming company behind the portable Playdate console, recently held a games showcase to unveil a lineup of upcoming exclusives. One of the highlights of the event was the announcement of a release date for Mars After Midnight, a highly anticipated game developed by Lucas Pope, known for his critically acclaimed titles Papers, Please and Return of the Obra Dinn. The game, which features lo-res graphics and incorporates the Playdate console’s unique crank, is expected to be a standout title for the platform.
In addition to Mars After Midnight, Panic showcased 16 other games that are scheduled to be released on the Playdate console in 2024 and beyond. These include Faraway Fairway, a rogue-like/golf hybrid, the pixel-art brawler Midnight Raider, and the sci-fi RPG For Home, among others.
Furthermore, Panic’s CEO, Cabel Sasser, took the opportunity to announce that the Playdate console is now available for purchase with no wait times. This comes as a relief to the more than 70,000 customers who had preordered the console. To celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Playdate online store, Panic is hosting a storewide sale from March 7 to March 14, offering discounted prices on many titles.
The Playdate console stands out in the gaming industry as a truly unique portable gaming device. Its charming yellow design and manually-operated crank add a distinct level of interactivity to the gaming experience. Each console comes with 24 free titles, with two new games unlocking every week for 12 weeks.
