Baidu Announces Return to In-Person Format for Baidu World Showcase

Baidu, the Chinese tech giant, is set to host its annual Baidu World showcase on October 16th at 10 PM ET. After several years of being held virtually, the event will return to an in-person format, featuring “real-world demos and experiences” for the first time since 2019. Unsurprisingly, artificial intelligence (AI) will take center stage at the event, as is the trend for major tech companies.

During the showcase, Baidu plans to discuss a range of AI-native applications and the latest advancements in foundation models. This suggests that there will be updates on ERNIE Bot, Baidu’s large language model, and its generative AI chatbot. Additionally, the company may provide insights into the impact of AI on its self-driving initiatives.

The two-hour event will kick off with a keynote address from Baidu co-founder and CEO Robin Li. For those interested, a live stream of Baidu World 2023 will be available.

In other tech news, Apple is reportedly exploring options for a more affordable Vision Pro headset, including the possibility of using an iPhone chip and eliminating the external display. The new M3 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models from Apple are also expected to be released in 2024, with the MacBook Pro anticipated to launch earlier in the year.

Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming anime series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, featuring the original cast from the 2010 movie, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. The show is co-written and executive-produced by Bryan Lee O’Malley, the creator of the Scott Pilgrim comics.

Furthermore, Ferrari has started accepting cryptocurrency payments in the US using BitPay. Customers can now use Bitcoin, ether, and USDC to make purchases, with plans to expand the service to Europe.
