“Tech Analyst Mark Gurman suggests a high-end headset priced between $1,500 and $2,500 is currently being developed, as reported by Bloomberg.”

Apple is reportedly considering the release of a cheaper version of its Vision Pro headset. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this stripped-down model would feature fewer external cameras and exclude the EyeSight feature, replacing the current Mac chip with an iPhone chip. This move is aimed at reducing the cost of the headset to a range of $1,500 to $2,500. The current starting price for the Apple Vision Pro is $3,500.

In addition to these changes, Gurman also suggests that the cheaper Vision Pro may use lower-resolution displays and eliminate the external display that enables the EyeSight feature. EyeSight projects the wearer’s eyes onto an outward-facing OLED display, allowing others to see where their attention is focused. While EyeSight was highlighted as a selling point in Apple’s Vision Pro announcement, it is not considered vital to the functionality of the headset.

Gurman also reports that Apple is already working on a follow-up to the premium Vision Pro model. This next iteration is expected to retain the EyeSight feature and potentially feature a more lightweight design with built-in prescription lenses, replacing the current Zeiss inserts.

In other news, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicts that the new M3 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models will be released in 2024, with the MacBook Pro expected to launch early in the year, followed by the Air later on.
