Duolingo is set to launch a new music course in the coming months. The popular educational tech company previously announced its plans to incorporate music lessons into its platform back in September. The course will offer hundreds of bite-sized lessons and over 200 tunes to help users learn music in a gamified manner. Duolingo has divided the lessons into levels, allowing users to progress by completing tasks and earning points. The course starts by familiarizing users with the sounds of the C and D notes of C major using a digital piano. Users will match the sounds of each note with their placement on a staff, enabling them to identify the notes on a music sheet. Subsequent lessons will cover additional notes, and users will be tested on their progress by playing familiar songs like “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” The course is designed to make music learning accessible and enjoyable for everyone, including those who may consider themselves musically challenged. It should be noted that the initial release of Duolingo’s music course will be available in English and Spanish on iOS devices, with plans to expand to more languages in the future.

Alongside the new music course, Duolingo has also updated its math curriculum to help users develop real-world math skills. The updated curriculum focuses on practical math skills such as calculating tips and hourly wages. Karen Chow, Senior Learning Scientist for Duolingo Music, explained that the expansion into math and music aims to alleviate the intimidation often associated with these subjects and demonstrate that learning can be fun.

If you’re eager to start learning with Duolingo’s music course, you can sign up for the waitlist. While initially limited to English and Spanish on iOS devices, Duolingo plans to make the course available to a wider audience soon.
