“The ID.GTI Concept: Electrifying the Future of Enthusiast Cars.”
Volkswagen has unveiled its latest addition to the ID lineup, the ID.GTI concept, which is set to become an electric hot hatch in production. The ID.GTI aims to capture the enthusiasm of performance car enthusiasts, offering a sporty and compact design that exudes speed even when stationary. Based on the ID.2all compact, the ID.GTI features several upgrades including 20-inch wheels, front, side, and rear spoilers, a rear diffuser, a honeycomb grill, striped graphics, and LED fog lights.
While Volkswagen has not provided specific details about the handling and performance of the ID.GTI, it is expected to surpass the capabilities of the ID.2all. The ID.2all boasts a 223HP motor, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 62MPH in under seven seconds and achieve an estimated range of 280 miles. With its electric drivetrain, the ID.GTI is likely to outperform these figures and offer a higher top speed.
One notable feature of the ID.GTI is its electronically-controlled front-axle differential lock, which provides superior traction control similar to the current Golf GTI. Volkswagen emphasized that the electric drive motor allows for flexible adjustments, further enhancing the vehicle’s performance. Additionally, the ID.GTI benefits from a low center of gravity due to the placement of the battery in the vehicle floor, enhancing its handling capabilities.
Inside the ID.GTI concept, drivers can expect tartan sports seats, a drive selector, a sportier steering wheel, and a 10.9-inch instrument cluster. The vehicle also boasts a 12.9-inch infotainment system and an augmented reality head-up display that projects essential information for both the driver and front passenger, including speed and track layout. Activating the special GTI button triggers a striking red lighting scheme.
Volkswagen confirmed that the ID.GTI concept will enter production, but specific release dates and pricing details have not been disclosed. However, it is anticipated that the ID.GTI will debut alongside the ID.2all, which is expected to be priced under $30,000 and scheduled for release in 2025.
