‘It’s available for purchase in Europe and China, and expected to be featured on Tesla’s US site soon.’
Tesla’s recently updated Model 3 has officially been released in China, Europe, and other markets after details of the redesign were leaked over the past year. The refreshed model features a mild redesign, increased range, and an updated interior with new materials. However, it comes with a higher price tag in certain regions. European shipments are scheduled to begin next month, and American buyers can expect to see it on Tesla’s ordering website in the near future.
Tesla Europe took to Twitter to showcase images of the styling modifications, particularly in the front end, which now has a sleeker and less bulbous appearance. This design change contributes to an improved driving range on a single charge. According to Tesla, the updated Model 3 can travel up to 629 km (390 miles) based on Europe’s WLTP range, representing a 10-12% increase compared to the previous model. This could potentially translate to a US range of around 300 miles/365 miles, considering the current base/long range Model 3’s EPA range of 272 miles/333 miles.
In addition to exterior enhancements, Tesla promises a “more refined & relaxed ride quality” thanks to a stiffer body and updated suspension tuning. The company also introduces two new color options, ultra red and stealth grey, which can be selected for an additional €2,000 above the base white color. These colors are designed to subtly change based on viewing angle and lighting conditions.
Inside the vehicle, the interior has received a refresh, although physical controls remain absent. Tesla now offers “more sophisticated materials, ventilated seats, and customizable ambient lighting.” Rear-seat passengers can enjoy an entertainment and climate control system accessible through a rear touchscreen. The main touchscreen has also been improved, with smaller bezels providing more usable screen space. Tesla describes it as “brighter, higher contrast, and more responsive.”
To enhance the overall driving experience, Tesla has incorporated 360-degree acoustic glass into the new Model 3, ensuring a quieter cabin atmosphere regardless of external noise. The company also upgraded the sound system, equipping the vehicle with up to 17 speakers, dual subwoofers, and dual amplifiers.
Although Tesla has previously made significant updates to the Model 3 through firmware updates and minor physical changes, this latest iteration appears to make the vehicle more sophisticated and efficient. These improvements may be in response to competition from other automakers such as Kia and Mercedes. Furthermore, rumors from last year suggest that the changes may also result in a lower production cost for the Model 3.
However, it is worth noting that the new Model 3 may come with a higher price tag upon its US release. In China, the base model now costs approximately $35,800, representing a 12% increase compared to the previous version. Similarly, in Norway, the base model remains at the same price, but the long-range version is about $950 more expensive. Tesla’s configurators are now available in Europe, with deliveries expected in October. The vehicle is expected to arrive in the US market soon.
