“The company ventures into a new product category, intensifying competition with Ring.”

Signify, the renowned Philips spinoff famous for its Hue lighting products is expanding its brand into a new category, placing itself in direct competition with Ring and Nest. The company has introduced a range of security products set to be available this fall, including the Philips Hue Secure cameras in both wired and wireless versions. These cameras boast a 1080p HD video feed with night vision capabilities.

The new Hue Secure cameras offer users the ability to communicate with visitors or delivery persons outside their doors. Additionally, they can be programmed to work in conjunction with Hue lights and sound alarms, serving as a deterrent against potential intruders. Notably, these devices possess the capability to differentiate between pets, packages, and people. Signify assures users that their footage will remain private with end-to-end encryption enabled by default. The cameras can be used indoors or outdoors, with the wired version having the option to be propped up using a companion desktop stand. Both camera versions will be available this autumn, with the wired option priced at $218 (€200) and the battery variant at $273 (€250).

For those seeking outdoor security solutions, Signify offers the Philips Hue Secure floodlight camera. When triggered through the Hue app, this camera instantly illuminates a large area in any color chosen by the user to deter potential intruders. The floodlight camera is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2024, retailing for $382 (€350).

In addition to the security cameras, the new Philips Hue lineup includes contact sensors that can be placed on doors, windows, or other areas of interest. These sensors notify users if any of the monitored areas are opened. Furthermore, they can be programmed to work with Hue lights, automatically switching them on or off based on the sensor’s detection. The contact sensors will be available this autumn in black and white, priced at $44 (€40) each or $76 (€70) for a two-pack.

To simplify the user experience, Signify has updated its app with a new Security Center feature. This feature allows users to trigger alarms, flashlights, and activate the siren on the Secure camera directly from the app. The Security Center also offers quick access to local authorities or trusted contacts, enabling them to check on the user’s home in case of absence.
