‘Ayaneo’s upcoming handheld, The Kun, promises to be their most formidable yet.’

Ayaneo’s upcoming addition to its lineup of handheld gaming PCs, known as the Kun, is set to hit the market sooner than anticipated. Pre-orders for the device will begin on September 5th, coinciding with the launch of the Indiegogo campaign at 8 AM ET.

While Ayaneo has already released multiple gaming handhelds, the Kun is expected to stand out from its competitors due to its impressive specifications. Despite featuring the same processor as the ROG Ally, the Kun sets itself apart with its larger 8.4-inch display, surpassing the already sizable Steam Deck. The Kun’s display boasts a 1600p resolution, in contrast to the Steam Deck’s 720p screen and the ROG Ally’s 1080p display. Furthermore, the Kun’s display is notably brighter, with 500 nits compared to the Steam Deck’s 400 nits. However, the Kun’s substantial and luminous screen may potentially impact its battery life, which stands at 75Wh (19500mAh).

According to internal tests conducted by Ayaneo, the Kun is estimated to last approximately 49 minutes in extreme settings, although the company does not recommend prolonged use under these conditions. On lower settings, users can expect the Kun to run for around three hours on a single charge. While this battery life is similar to that of the Steam Deck, it remains to be seen how the Kun will perform in real-world usage scenarios.

In terms of specifications, the Ayaneo Kun is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U processor and integrated Radeon 780M graphics. Ayaneo has also implemented a new heat dissipation system called “KUNPeng” to prevent overheating when running games at maximum settings. Other notable improvements include an optimized grip sensation for larger screen handhelds, a new floating eight-directional D-pad, face recognition technology, and a customizable back button. Additionally, the Kun features a built-in folding stand, adding to its overall functionality.

The Kun will be available in three color options: Silver Wing, Black Feather, and White Silk. Early Bird buyers can secure the base model for $999, while the retail price on Indiegogo will be $1,129. The official retail price for the 16GB RAM and 512GB storage variant is set at $1,209. The highest configuration, with 64GB RAM and 4TB storage, will cost $1,699 for Early Bird buyers, $1,809 on Indiegogo, and $1,949 at official retail. Global shipping is expected to commence in mid-October.
