“The highly-anticipated luxury smart scale, set to debut in September, was announced in early 2022.”
The Withings Body Scan Connected Health Station has received clearance from the FDA and is scheduled to be released this autumn. Daniel Cooper from Engadget had the opportunity to try the product earlier this year and spoke highly of the luxury smart scale. However, he also mentioned that the $400 price tag may be excessive for many consumers.
Initially announced at CES 2022, the Body Scan represented a new era in consumer technology. Withings initially priced the scale at $300, but due to delays in FDA approval, inflation, and the semiconductor crisis, the cost increased.
Despite the high price, the Body Scan offers a range of features. It is the first FDA-approved health station that can detect atrial fibrillation through a six-lead ECG. Additionally, it analyzes body composition, measures nerve activity, and monitors vascular age. The scale even uses Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) to track foot sweat levels and screen for signs of neuropathy.
Engadget found the process of using the scale to be straightforward and effortless. After stepping on the scale and holding the grab at pelvis height for 90 seconds, it performs various tests and provides data on weight, body fat, muscle mass, visceral fat, ECG, Pulse Wave Velocity, vascular age, nerve health, as well as the day’s weather and local air quality.
The device itself features a tempered glass platform with a retractable handle, four weight sensors, 14 ITP electrodes, and four stainless steel electrodes. Withings claims that the battery will last for 12 months before needing to be recharged. The scale’s metrics can be viewed on a 3.2-inch color LCD display, and weight measurements are precise down to 0.1 lbs. It can also measure Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).
The Withings Body Scan Connected Health Station will be available for purchase in September at a price of $400.
