‘Reimagining the iconic FFVII, this mobile game enriches the narrative with captivating character backstories.’

Square Enix’s highly anticipated mobile game, Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, is set to launch on iOS and Android on September 7th. The game, which expands the FFVII story and universe, was first announced by Square Enix alongside the battle royale action title, Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier, in 2021. Originally planned for a 2022 release, the game faced delays and only entered closed beta testing in July of this year.

Developed by Applibot, Final Fantasy veterans Kazushige Nojima, Yoshinori Kitase, and Tetsuya Nomura were also involved as scenario writers, executive producers, and creative directors, respectively. Ever Crisis features an art style that pays homage to the chibi characters of the original FFVII, but with a twist – Cloud now has actual hands in this version, as noted by The Verge.

The game retells the events of the original game, allowing players to relive iconic moments, while also incorporating The First Soldier’s backstory and stories of the characters’ younger years. The gameplay is based on the original’s Active Time Battle system, optimized for mobile devices.

While Ever Crisis will be free-to-play, players will have the option to spend money on “gacha” to acquire weapons and other items, as highlighted in Android Police’s review of the closed beta version. Fans eager to play the game as soon as possible can now pre-register for either or both mobile platforms.
