‘Finding media is now easier with Brave’s integrated search engine.’

Brave Search Enhances Privacy with Image and Video Queries

Brave, the privacy-focused web browser, has introduced image and video queries to its search engine, eliminating the need to rely on Bing or Google for such media content. With this update, users can now find photos and videos while maintaining their privacy and freedom of access. Unlike other search engines, Brave Search ensures that users are not profiled based on their search queries and reduces the risk of missing politically sensitive content unintentionally filtered by other engines.

However, Brave still allows users the option to continue searching through competitors, at least for the time being. The company acknowledges that certain search features, like filtering by aspect ratio or license, are not yet available. Despite this, Brave believes that having a “clear alternative” is more important than having feature parity with major search engines.

Brave’s search engine is available for anyone to use on the web, although it is set as the default search engine in the Brave browser. To expand its reach, the company encourages users to contribute to an anonymous Web Discovery Project.

In 2021, Brave launched its own search engine, differentiating itself from other privacy-oriented challengers like DuckDuckGo by avoiding the use of third-party indexes. In May, Brave stopped using Bing’s search index, giving the company more control over its search results, although this decision resulted in a seven percent reduction in available results.

While Brave’s market share is currently not significant enough to challenge heavyweights like Chrome, Edge, and Safari, this update addresses a major concern for privacy enthusiasts who are determined to minimize data collection as much as possible.
