Possible Release of iPhone “Ultra” Expected This Year
Exciting new details have emerged about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15, bringing us one step closer to understanding its features. Leaked information sheds light on various aspects, including bezel size and a new charging port. According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the classic iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are set to bid farewell to the top-notch and embrace the Dynamic Island, an interactive pill-shaped cutout that was first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are also expected to receive a fresh look at the top, with low-injection pressure over-molding (LIPO) technology reducing the iPhone’s border size from 2.2 millimeters to 1.5 millimeters. LIPO was initially used in Apple’s Watch Series 7.
Another significant change rumored for the iPhone 15 is the replacement of the lightning charger with a USB-C port, potentially reducing the number of cords users need to carry. Even if this transition does not occur in the upcoming generation, it is only a matter of time. In 2024, the European Union mandated that all smartphones and tablets sold in the region must have a USB-C charging port. The European Parliament referred to this measure, which will eventually extend to laptops, as beneficial for both the environment and consumers.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are also expected to feature camera upgrades and the A16 processor, which was first introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro. Meanwhile, the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will reportedly boast titanium edges instead of stainless steel and a 3-nanometer chip. Furthermore, rumors have circulated about the potential release of an iPhone “Ultra” as a high-end option. Apple is likely to release at least the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro in September, following its usual schedule, and these models may come with a higher price tag compared to previous generations.
