‘Mark Gurman’s latest reports indicate a revised timeline for the launch of the M3 MacBook Air, differing from his previous October prediction.’
Apple is reportedly planning to release the M3 MacBook Pro in early 2024, followed by the M3 MacBook Air a few months later, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Previously, Gurman had predicted that the new MacBook Air would launch in October, but now he believes it will be released sometime between spring and summer next year. Gurman also provided updates on the progress of the M3 MacBook Air and M3 MacBook Pros, stating that the MacBook Airs are currently in the engineering verification test (EVT) stage, while the MacBook Pros are nearing mass production. The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips have reached the design validation test (DVT) stage. These developments indicate that the new MacBook Pros are on track for a release between early and spring 2024. It is worth noting that Apple released its 2023 MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips in January this year.
Gurman’s report also contradicts recent rumors suggesting that Apple will introduce new iPads this week. Supercharged and 9to5Mac had reported that the iPad Air and iPad mini would receive chip upgrades, with the former adopting the M2 chip and the latter upgrading to the A16 Bionic chip. However, Gurman states that while upgrades along these lines are in development, he does not believe that significant updates are imminent.
In other news, Gurman mentions in his Power On newsletter that Apple is considering options for a cheaper version of its Vision Pro headset. These options include removing the external display and using an iPhone chip, as well as incorporating lower-resolution displays inside the headset.
