TikTok Revamps Effect Creator Rewards Program to Support Smaller Creators
TikTok has announced significant changes to its Effect Creator Rewards program, aimed at providing better opportunities and compensation for creators of effects and filters. The program, which was first introduced in May with a $6 million fund, faced criticism for its high entry threshold and limited geographic eligibility.
Previously, creators were required to have their filters used in at least 500,000 videos to qualify for rewards. However, TikTok has now lowered the threshold, allowing creators with just five filters published on the platform, three of which must be used in 1,000 videos, to participate. This change is expected to expand the program’s accessibility to smaller creators.
In addition, the program is now open to creators in countries including Brazil, Australia, Canada, Finland, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. While this expansion is a step towards inclusivity, there is no indication of when the program will be available globally.
TikTok has also implemented a new payment structure, moving away from a flat fee for all creators to a variable pay rate. The payment received by each creator will be determined by factors such as the region where the video was created. While the impact of this change remains to be seen, it is unclear whether it will benefit creators in developed nations more than those in developing nations, considering differences in the cost of living.
These updates aim to address the concerns raised by creators and ensure a fair and rewarding experience for all participants. TikTok has been contacted for further details on the new pay structure and will provide updates accordingly.
